As the name suggests, nocturnal leg cramps occur at night while sleeping or resting, and the cramps aggravate with age.

> Instant Leg Cramp Relief. Get It Now !

Read more about the various causes and treatment methods of night leg cramps in greater detail.

Also called charley horse, with this cramping the commonly affected areas of the body are the calf, foot and the thigh. Although referred to as nocturnal leg cramps, they can occur at any time of the day or night.

Night leg cramps are not chronic and may last for about 10 minutes with possible soreness after they are gone.

These cramps are not gender specific and they might affect both men and women equally and apart from people who are more than 50 years of age, small children are also affected at times.

Some Remedies For Nocturnal Leg Cramps

Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, indulging in stretching exercises, wearing shoes which give proper support and maintaining a proper posture while sleeping, are some of the preventive measures that can be followed in order to reduce the frequency of nocturnal spasms.

Causes Of Nocturnal Leg Cramps

There are no such definite causes of nighttime leg cramps, however, based on assumptions and possibilities, there are some cases that have been linked with these cramps. These include overuse or overexertion of muscles, sitting in the same place for a long period of time or sitting in an improper posture and dehydration. Being dehydrated is considered as one of the causes of cramps generally, as there is not enough water for transporting vitamins, minerals and other substances throughout the body.

Leg cramps while sleeping have been found to be common among expecting mothers and elderly, probably due to poor blood circulation in their limbs. People with a sedentary lifestyle are also vulnerable to leg cramps and they become prone to this disease if they do not maintain enough consumption of water for the body to remain hydrated. Nocturnal leg cramps have also been found common among people who have deficiencies of calcium, potassium and magnesium.

Certain medical conditions such as diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, endocrine disorders and medications such as contraceptive pills (birth control pills) have also been hold responsible for the occurrence of leg cramping at night.

How To Treat Night Leg Cramps?

It has been found that people suffering from leg cramps and spasms increased the level of potassium in their diet and seemed to have reduced the frequency of cramps. Some examples of potassium rich foods are bananas, apricots, nectarines, dates, grapes or raisins, beans, the cabbage/broccoli family of vegetables, oranges, grapefruit and its juice, pork, lamb, potatoes and corn, saltwater fish (like tuna), tomatoes and tomato juice.

> Instant Leg Cramp Relief. Get It Now !

Pain from leg cramps, that might occur suddenly, after getting up from the bed, can be relieved by applying a hot compress and massaging the cramped muscles. Even soaking the affected leg in warm water reduces the pain to a great extent.

Another cure for leg cramps is the exercise of holding your toes to stretch your calf muscle. Pull them towards your knee and extend the leg straight out. This is an effective exercise which can be followed before going to bed and after waking up. While you are doing this exercise, you will feel the effect in the back of your calf muscles. Stretching the legs and Achilles tendons on a regular basis shows major improvements in leg cramps treatment.

The calves, when toned and well stretched, are less prone to developing cramps. For this, exercises such as ‘toe-ups’ and ‘wall stretches’ are helpful.

Being aware of such cramp treatments, comes in handy at times when there are less chances of getting any medical aid

However, in serious cases, where the pain becomes unbearable, a doctor should be the first point of contact. He is the one who can pinpoint the causes and provide the right remedy.

Is restless leg syndrome a rare and difficult to condition or a simple dietary deficiency that can be quickly remedied?

Do you have restless legs syndrome? Maybe you just think you do thanks to the advertising savvy of pharmaceutical companies who make millions exaggerating this rare condition.

Restless Legs Syndrome: Forget the Media Hype

They’ve been so successful, that it’s become an epidemic in a population of restless yet inactive people who may really just be suffering from a common mineral deficiency.

I’ll discuss that deficiency with you in just a moment. But first, I’d like to explain why you should avoid if at all possible the popular prescription drugs that are being marketed to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS).

The main RLS drugs fall under the category of tranquilizers, sleeping aids and pain relievers — substances that are highly addictive and are only masking the true problem.

The worst of the batch is Requip (ropinirole) which plays with your brain chemistry in the way drugs for Parkinson’s disease and ADHD do — by increasing or decreasing your production of dopamine (which regulates most of your bodily functions).

In fact, Requip is so powerful, it is often prescribed to lessen the effects of Parkinson’s disease. “Hallucination” is listed under significant adverse effects of the drug.

Here’s what you really need to know about RLS but will not learn from any TV commercial. The most common cause is usually a simple deficiency of the mineral magnesium in the muscle cells. Treating restless leg syndrome can be a natural process

Magnesium is the key component that allows cells to absorb other minerals like calcium, iron and potassium that are needed by your muscle cells. Magnesium also allows your muscles to relax and even combats insomnia. These are three darn good reasons why this miracle mineral makes an easy solution for RLS.

One hundred years ago the average person consumed 500 mg of magnesium a day through their diet. Thanks to modern soil depletion, the average person is lucky to get 150 mg through food alone. Unless you’re juicing bunches of collard greens each day, supplementation is the best alternative.

I recommend taking magnesium in three forms:

Magnesium Citrate Powder: This may not absorb as well as the other forms but it still offers its own unique benefits. It also tastes the best. You can find a powdered drink mix called Natural Calm at most health food stores. It can be added to water for a fizzy soda-like drink sweetened with organic stevia.

Magnesium Oil: This is a combination of supersaturated magnesium chloride in distilled water. You can massage this into your legs. It’ll absorb through the skin into the muscles. Good sources of magnesium oil can be found at www.globallight.net and www.magneticclay.com.

Angstrom Liquid Ionic Magnesium: Scientists have found that minerals enter cells through extremely narrow channels about 5 billionths of a meter wide. We normally would rely on plants to break magnesium down to this size. The company www.123minerals.com however, uses a process that breaks down magnesium into a highly absorbable form to enter these narrow channels. Usually one 75-mg dose of angstrom magnesium will have the same effects of 750 mg of citrate.

You can’t overdose on magnesium (unless you have kidney failure problems) so take as much as feels good for you. If you’re prone to loose bowel movements, get most of your magnesium through the oil and the angstrom minerals. If you’re prone to constipation, you may prefer to focus on the citrate powder which has a slight laxative effect.

Your body was built to move and your mind to think. Sitting in front of the TV watching ads for RLS inspires neither physical fitness nor mental creativity. No wonder people are restless! Dose up on magnesium, get plenty of exercise and participate in projects that challenge you mentally. My guess is you won’t need any prescription drugs for RLS

You can even find the non-profit Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation online at www.rls.org. But their obvious focus seems to be on increasing awareness of a condition “which severely affects the lives of millions of individuals.”

Everyone seeks relief from pain. Read on for information about the treatment of leg cramps.

When I was younger I sometimes woke up with leg cramps and excruciating pain surging through my legs. Whenever this happened I massaged the leg and walked on it till the pain subsided. Various meetings with doctors proved that there was nothing wrong with me….Thankfully! Today, I would like to share the information I have gathered about the treatment of leg cramps with you.

Quick Cure For Leg Cramps

A pain that comes from a muscle in the leg is termed as a leg cramp. This pain usually occurs in one of the calf muscles which are located behind and below the knee and is due to a muscle spasm which occurs when a muscle contracts too hard.

Leg cramps last for a few seconds to a few minutes and usually occur at night, when the person is sleeping.

Leg Cramps – Who gets them?

These cramps are common in older people though many younger people have an occasional leg cramp too. It has been studied that about 1 to 3 people over the age pf 60 and about a half of the people over the age of 80 have cramps regularly. Sometimes these cramps occur everyday while in other cases it occurs at least three a week.

What are some of the causes of leg cramps?

Some of the factors that are said to contribute to the occurrence of leg cramps are:

Dehydration

Tiredness in the muscles

Heavy Exercise

Excess Weight

Medications

Electrolyte Imbalance

Diabetes

Sitting in the same posture for a long time

Neuromuscular disorders

Use of alcohol

A decrease in the potassium levels

How can I prevent leg cramps from occurring?

To prevent leg cramps, you need to:

Formulate an exercise routine and ensure that you build on it gradually. It is not advisable to have sudden increase in activity.

Stretching helps relax muscles so it is important to follow a good post-work out stretching routine as this helps relax muscles and prevent cramps. Do not exercise vigorously just before going to sleep.

Drink at least three full glasses of water every day as water is crucial in the prevention of leg cramps. Apart from water, make sure that you consume fluids in your diet before, after and during exercise.

Include enough potassium into your diet.

How do I get rid of the pain caused by leg cramps?

In order to get rid of the pain caused because of a leg cramp you must:

Massage the sore muscle.

Gently stretch your leg and move your foot towards your knee, until you feel the calf muscles stretch.

Go in for a hot bath or shower as this will help relax the muscle.

What is the treatment I can follow for leg cramps?

A massage and gentle stretching of the area that has been affected is usually the best method used to relieve an attack of the cramp. Though painkillers are not used for sudden attacks, it might sometimes be used to help ease muscle tenderness and discomfort which at times carries on for up to 24 hours after the cramp has gone away.

When do I consult a registered medical practitioner?

It is advisable to meet one when the cramps become a recurring problem. The doctor may advise you to have your blood analysed to ensure the levels of potassium and electrolyte are normal. He/she may also check you medical history and medications to ensure that they do not contain factors that contribute to the cramps in your leg.

Did you ever go to sleep at night and about two hours into your restful sleep you suddenly awaken only to find that your legs are twitching like crazy? And then suddenly the aches and leg cramps start. These cramps can be so severe that it feels like somebody is digging a knife into your calves.

Well, if you’ve suffered, or are suffering with these symptoms, what you have is restless leg syndrome. The attacks can come at any time. And while this seems like a problem that just won’t go away, there are natural treatments for this condition that will rid you of your restless leg syndrome for good. But first, we need to understand what causes it.

Natural Treatment For Restless Leg Syndrome

In spite of what many people think, restless leg syndrome is not a neurological problem. The problem itself effects people as they get older. About 5% of the population in the United States suffers from this condition at one time or another.

It affects women more than it does men. Doctors have determined that the main cause of this problem is related to iron deficiency. While this condition can actually be inherited, being exposed to extreme cold or stress can also bring on attacks. There is also some evidence that suggests the disease is also related to heart and stomach disorders.

In most cases though, the problem comes down to circulation. Blood flow to the legs is being restricted and as a result, the legs have a tendency to cramp up.

So the key to treating this disease is to increase circulation to the legs. This can easily be done through natural means without having to resort to harmful drugs.

There are two means of treating restless leg syndrome. The first is what is called immediate care. This is what you should do when actually suffering from an attack. For the leg that is having the attack, take your foot and just move it around. This will help bring circulation back. Then, if you’re not in too much pain, get up and walk around for a few minutes until the attack stops. If the attack isn’t too severe, sometimes just changing the way you’re sleeping in bed can stop an attack. With some people, a heating pad works wonders. With others, soaking their feet in cold water does the trick.

The second means is called longer term care and this basically involves a number of life style changes. Most people who suffer from restless leg syndrome are coffee drinkers, so it is important to get rid of caffeine from your diet. Because of the iron deficiency possibility, it is important to take vitamins containing a sufficient amount of iron daily. It is also important not to eat large meals before bed as this can also lead to an attack. Finally, try to avoid stress and get plenty of exercise.

The above simple tips should be sufficient enough to keep you from suffering from restless leg syndrome for even one more day.

Although night leg cramps are quite a common occurrence their cause is still a matter of debate and can be the result of different causes at various times.

Yet there are a few common themes, such as doing too much stretching too quickly or prolonged sitting or in response to deficiencies in diet or certain side effects of some drugs. It is also believed that cramps can occur as a symptom or side effect of cetain diseases like diabetes, hypoglycemia, arteriosclerosis or an underactive thyroid gland.

Other suggested causes include problems such as poor circulation where the muscle isn’t receiving a good blood supply or enough oxygen, a pinched nerve or cramping as the result of an injury.

Here are a list of remedies for leg cramp relief. Simply select and click on the ones that appeals to you.

Quinine For Cramp Relief

Leg cramps can also be quite common during pregnancy and this is oftenbecause of the added weight being borne by the legs, or the muscles becoming more tired than they would normally pre-pregnancy or a mineral deficiency as more is used up for the growing foetus. As the uterus expands during pregnancy it may also put pressure on the nerves that run down into the legs and lead to cramping.

Leg cramps can result in quite sharp and severe pain, most often in the calf muscle as the muscle goes into uncontrollable spasm and suddenly contracts very tightly. The pain is acute but only lasts a short time, usually no more than a few minutes (which can feel much longer when you are suffering!) and sometimes you may be left with tenderness in the affected area for some time afterwards.

The trouble is, when this happens regularly and most usually at night, waking you up from sleep, it can become quite distressing and can affect your whole day by being fatigued, even though the condition itself is not serious or life threatening.

Some of the prescription drugs that seem to be associated with cramping include water tablets or diuretics, penicillamine and nicotinic acid. Deficiencies in diet might include not having enough potassium, calcium or magnesium which can result in an electrolyte imbalance, not enough vitamin E or A and even simply not having enough water, so becoming dehydrated.

Regular cramping seems to be relieved by making sure you take enough moderate exercise and doing some stretching, increasing your intake of essential minerals and vitamins, making sure you drink plenty of water and stay well hydrated and relaxing the muscles with massage or a warm bath. Sometimes when the cramping is severe and persistent, quinine is suggested as a treatment but this may involve unpleasant side effects such as dizziness or blurred vision.

Remember that if your muscle cramping is constant, pain is persistent, or if you notice swelling in your leg, call your doctor. These could be signs of a blood clot which needs immediate medical attention. Blood clots, if left untreated …

If you have muscular aches, LEG CRAMPS, headaches, irregular heartbeat and water retention (including bloating and swollen feet/ankles) this could easily be a factor. I have had poor luck with potassium pills if for no other reason than the ones in the store contain so little potassium. … The only thing I can recommend in this regard, should the earlier methods fail, is to start a medical journal about what foods you eat, when you eat it and how you feel later.

The value of doing a warm up and stretching before any strenuous exercise lies in having flexible muscles that don’t automatically cramp.

Regular and hard exercise does not necessarily equal great health. People who exercise or run are known to receive what the experts call exercise associated muscle cramps, these are caused by exercising and straining the muscles, later on when the muscle relaxes the muscle starts to tighten up. When exercising people will feel the fatigue in their muscles and this is a very common occurrence.

Treatment for leg cramps

Many runners suffer from calf cramps while running, the best remedy to stop the cramps is to let the muscle contract and finish its movement, rub the muscle and let the blood flow continue and the muscle will start feeling better. In many eastern cultures the best way to help with muscle cramping is to get the blood flowing again they do this by using acupressure or acupuncture to stimulate the blood flow to the effected area. If you do receive a muscle cramp stretch and squeeze the muscle this will get the blood flowing again, use some heat on the muscle and this will relax it.

Doctors have researched muscle cramps in tri-athletes and found some interesting findings; the cramps that athletes suffer from are not caused by blocked blood flow, dehydration, or vitamin deficiencies.

What about mineral salts? Does potassium prevent muscle cramps? Well, the advice is bases on loss of electrolytes theory and it now looks as though this theory may be unfounded

From the ancient orient there is a word Chi, the definition of this word is energy, energy of the muscle and energy of the body need to be in harmony. Muscles, the storehouse of energy in a living body, contract to help in the movement of different parts of the body. Another theory on the cause of running cramps says that carbohydrate depletion and a resultant loss of energy and build-up of waste products in the muscle leads to cramps.

It wasn’t so long ago that visualization techniques, stretching and yoga were introduced into sport and running and made an impact. When it comes to training and exercise, sometimes people are very impatient to do a stretching routine before they go for a run; most people don’t want to waste there workout time by stretching their muscles.

What causes an EAMC. There are many reasons why people get muscle cramps of the most common is because people do not warm up before exercising or training. Many people who exercise or don’t exercise receive excruciating pains in their muscles, the muscles tighten up and there is nothing you can do at that point because you can’t move, so before this happens or if you feel it happening rub some type of heat cream on the muscle, take aspirin, use a heating pad, or try to stretch the muscle to loosen it up.

Pain relief for cramping muscles

But does stretching before a run help prevent injury? But where do you get the energy from and enough of it to prevent cramping. Bodyworkers can play a role in helping their clients manage and prevent these types of afflictions by sharing some basic tips and information with them.

Muscle cramps in the night are traditionally associated with either over exertion of muscles, rapid dehydration or a lack of essential mineral salts such as potassium but there are also some other causes, one of which might be related to thyroid function.

Muscles cramps caused by hypothyroidism

Muscles cramps and hypothyroidism are interrelated but do not consider it as the only reason for your regular muscular sprains. It is basically due to temporary contraction of muscular tissue which is experienced mostly at the time of excess physical strain. But if a person is experiencing a continuous muscular pain then it might be a sign of malfunctioning of the thyroid gland which in other words is also known as hypothyroidism.

Our body consists of voluntary and involuntary muscles. Voluntary muscles are the muscles which can be controlled by the human being themselves. There contraction and movement is controlled through the channel of brain and sensory nerves. However, if these muscles contract themselves and refuse to come to normal state themselves then it is called a muscle cramp. The reason for such a situation can be excess loss of fluid from the body due to prolonged physical stress which not only strains body muscles but also drains out water from the body.

Hormones like thyroxine define the energy levels of a person. It is basically the energy booster of the body muscles which processes body nutrients to provide energy to the muscles. Its level of production also defines how efficiently the food consumed is burned. Thyroxine is produced by thyroid gland. If thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones in the body then a person is likely to face persistent muscle cramps.

Hypothyroidism is a hormone disorder which is mainly because of low levels of production of thyroxin hormone in the body. Thyroid gland is the most important gland in the body which not only has its individual function but regulates the working of other hormone glands as well. The thyroid gland looks after the growth and development of the body. It is also manages various other cellular processes as well. So, it is a very essential gland of our body which commands some very significant body functions.

For people having regular muscle pull thyromine is the best solution. It is a natural thyroid supplement that enhances the body functions by producing adequate amount of thyroid hormone. The best part is that it does not have any side effects. It can cure your muscle pains and injuries. However there are few precautions one needs to take along with regular medication. Here are a few precautions you need to take if you are suffering from hypothyroidism. Muscle cramps occur with excessive strain so do not over exert yourself. Massaging can be the best way to improve blood circulation. It will also enhance your muscular contraction and expansion which will give them strength and energy. Get a thyroid check regularly and keep your medication going until your thyroid gland works efficiently.

The worst ones are the inner thigh cramps. They are crippling; and then the muscles are sore for days afterward. I think I get them when I am dehydrated. The “pinching the skin under the nose” trick has not helped me so far.

5 miles later I got a small cramp in my inner thigh. This frustrates me because I’ve done lots of 12 hour days of climbing and hiking and have never had problems with cramping. But something about cycling — probably the insanely repetitive … Halfway up the climb, my right leg locked up and I knew it was game over.

Some doctors swear by these exercises to relieve nocturnal cramps, others aren’t sold. Either way, stretching will not hurt you, so if you try them and find they help you, that’s a good thing.
Two hours after eating Friday night, I had a vicious leg cramp in my left inner thigh. It was excruciating, and (in my mind) directly related to eating. Had I still been not eating, I firmly believe the cramp would not have happened.

If you are reading this article, I can guess that you suffer from painful night leg cramps .

I’m sure that you have probably purchased a few different medications that promise to put an end to your leg cramps, and you have probably read countless amounts of information about how to prevent the cramps as well.

The first thing that I noticed while doing my research is that the cause is unknown. There are a few different circumstances that are suspected to lead towards nocturnal leg cramps, but nothing is set in stone. This tells me that there can not possibly be an effective medication out there, if they cant even figure out what causes the cramping in the first place!

Household Soap – The Cure For Night Leg Cramps

Now, before I go any further, I want to let you know my stance on home remedies . Honestly, I am a believer in technology, and usually do not trust those ancient home remedies. I would rather buy something that is scientifically proven than do some voodoo to fix my problems. My problems; however, could not be fixed by the different medications that I took, so I decided to give a few remedies a try.

After soaking in a hot bathtub before going to sleep (did not feel too good on my legs), drinking a lot of water (cause me to wake up for other reasons during the night), and sleeping with a bar of soap (which I thought was crazy), the only remedy that actually worked was sleeping with a bar of soap!

Don’t worry, I don’t think your spouse will get jealous… just slide a bar of soap under your sheets at the foot of your bed, and prepare for a full nights rest! The very first time that I put this bar of soap under my bed, I did not wake up once with night leg cramps!

Whether you believe in home remedies or not, please give this a try. I am sure that you will be very happy with the results, just as a few of my friends have been. You don’t have anything to lose except restless nights!

You never used to get leg cramps (until recently), you run regularly and exercise for two hours a day or more, you’re fit, you’ve got a ’6 pack stomach’ – so you can eat anything you like, within reason, right?

Leg cramps And Bad Diet, The Elastic Band Theory

It just doesn’t work like that – let me explain using the ‘elastic band theory of health and longevity’ to explain why you’re starting to get leg cramps, muscle cramps and other health problems that are sure to follow.

The body is just like a wonderful machine – so good in fact that for over 30 to 40 years, no matter how ‘low grade’ the ‘fuel’ you put in, your body just works and works and works.
In fact, some people find that as they hit their mid thirties, that they’re just as fast as in their early twenties. Sure, you’re putting on a little weight, that’s normal, but overall you find that you’re just as fast and don’t need to train as often or as hard.

That is until one day you start getting cramps that won’t go away, or you can’t put up with that joint pain like you used to or your blood pressure starts to rise, or you need glasses or your hair starts going grey – fast.

Just like a thick elastic band, from a health point of view, the body can just keep stretching and stretching and stretching until one day it just ‘snaps’.

That’s when professional athletes just ‘drop dead’ from cardiovascular disease and that’s when you find out you have diabetes, cancer, or arthritis or you’re told by your doctor that you have a ‘problem heart’ and you’re professional sporting career is over.

It is really a ‘no-brainer’ that an unhealthy diet will contribute towards muscle cramps or other health problems and that these conditions are really just early warning signs or worse things to come.

Prevention of cramps and other health challenges from a nutrition point of view comes down to consuming a mostly fresh food diet that is high in minerals, avoiding ‘empty’ foods that are high in sugar and low in minerals and which also introduce toxins and antibiotics into our systems.

Fast foods of any type, fried food, processed or refined carbohydrates (such as cakes, biscuits and most types of bread), alcohol and excessive amounts of caffeine are all examples of foods to avoid.

In terms of cramping, eating the wrong food does the following:

1.Reduces our muscles’ energy reserves and makes cramping more likely

2.Deprives the muscles of minerals required to relax and contract the muscles.

3.Introduces toxins (preservatives, food colouring and flavour enhancers) that have a stimulatory effect on the muscles that induce cramping and tend to inhibit the relaxation response that prevents cramping.

And while muscle cramps, running cramps you suffer during exercise and leg cramps at night are the end result of these nutritional problems, it’s the other lifestyle-threatening and life-threatening conditions you should be worried about.

My advice – cramps are just indicators of potentially more serious health problems. Fix the cramps from a nutritional point of view and you’re taking positive action from a long term health and longevity perspective.

Nutrition is important and so is hydration and these can go a loong way to preventing cramps

These chemicals play important roles, such as helping to absorb fluids (sodium) and to avoid cramps (potassium). All runners will be losing these chemicals, but those who are especially salty sweaters will see a crusty white film

Nighttime Leg Cramps

Low levels of certain minerals known as electrolytes—magnesium, potassium, calcium and sodium—have long been linked to leg cramps. Marathon runners sweating out the miles are particularly prone to this variety.

I’ve only gotten a few cramps while running, actually. According to this website, researchers believe that the side stitch is caused by stretching the ligaments that extend from the diaphragm to the internal organs, particularly the liver. … Runners tend to exhale every two or four steps. Most people exhale as the left foot hits the ground, but some people exhale when the right foot hits the ground. It is the later group who seem more prone to get side stitches.

The myth, the legends, and the facts about muscle cramps of athletes are a medical mystery. Cramps afflict 39 percent of marathon runners, 79 percent of triathletes, and 60 percent of cyclists at one time or another

A painful muscle cramp is involuntary, that sustained tightening of one or more of your muscles.

It can sometimes result in intense pain and an inability to use the affected muscles.

Leg Cramps are very powerful contractions of the muscles in which pain occurs in lower leg. Night leg cramps often occur just as you’re falling asleep or just as you’re waking up. The other leg cramps occurs after exercise especially if you are dehydrated, overtired or overheated.

Leg cramps usually aren’t serious, but in rare cases, they can be symptoms of intermittent claudicating which is a form of atherosclerosis that causes inadequate blood supply to the legs.

Some of the causes of leg cramps are mentioned below:

Our body needs some elements to balance, if there is a chemical imbalance such as magnesium and potassium in the body, it can cause leg cramps. If a person breaks a bone, the muscles surrounding the area will sometimes spasm as a means of protecting it. This is the body’s clever way of immobilizing the bone and stabilizing it. In pregnant women, leg cramps often arise due to changes in the calcium metabolism. In this case, sometimes a doctor will start the patient on a course of calcium supplements if the pain is significant. Calcium deficiency can be an issue for people other than pregnant women and can be the cause of their cramps too.

There are various remedies for leg cramps some of which are mentioned below:

Minor cramps can often be prevented by drinking enough water and stretching before and after exercise. The remedies may help prevent and relieve leg cramps, according to some health professionals. You can use a warm towel or heating pad to get relieve from pain. You can also drink 15 grams of fresh bathu juice daily with an empty stomach also don’t add salt and sugar to it.

In fact, getting extra calcium will help relieve muscle cramps

The muscle cramps that happen in the middle of the night are typically caused by a deficiency of calcium and magnesium. Sources of calcium include dairy products, leafy green vegetables, seeds and nuts, and seaweeds.

Foot and Leg Cramps

Other factors such as dehydration, depletion of electrolytes (potassium, sodium, calcium or magnesium), injuries, and inflammation and nerve damage can cause cramps. Cramps are more common during exer fef cise in the heat because of sweat.
